[about]

Developed for the opening of the new theatre at Cool Japan Park Osaka, Keren was an innovative live experience created in collaboration with Yoshimoto, with scenographic development and creative design support from Moment Factory. I was responsible for the scenographic concept and design, alongside contributions to content development and overall art direction with Mariano Leotta—helping shape the visual language and spatial logic of the show from early conception.

Inspired by the Kabuki term keren—referring to theatrical tricks, stunts, and illusions—the production reinterpreted these traditions through contemporary multimedia and stagecraft. Performers moved fluidly between live action and on-stage screens, with illusions passing seamlessly between physical performance and digital content, intentionally blurring where reality ended and technology began. Traditional and popular music, dance, humour, swordplay, and stylised combat collided with playful references to samurai, ninjas, yakuza, and manga culture. The result was a layered, cross-disciplinary work that carried the spirit of Kabuki into a modern theatrical form, designed to resonate with both Japanese and international audiences
